Dear Working Group Members,
As you may know, the P1076.1 Working Group has worked with with IEEE-SA to find a way to adjust the WG organization that would enable us to seek funding for LRM work and that is also consistent with IEEE policies. We looked at several options that included funding under the non-profit status of IEEE as well as options that did not make use of this status. We also evaluated our options to find adequate funding from corporate donors and other organizations. At the WG meeting on February 13 we voting members decided to abandon this effort and not seek corporate funding. This decision means that we will not be able to hire a contractor to do the LRM editing, we have to do this using volunteer hours.
I have the pleasure to announce that Alain Vachoux has stepped up to take responsibility for the LRM work. Alain is well qualified for this work. Having served as either Secretary or Chair of the Working Group since its formation in the early 1990s and having brought two revisions of IEEE Std 1076.1 to a successful completion he is familiar with VHDL-AMS, with the LRM and its organization, and also with the process. Alain stated that he "[he] thinks [he] would better serve the WG when working on the LRM editing" than as Secretary. Consequently he is resigning from his position as Secretary of the WG. I can only commend Alain for his continued commitment to the success of the WG, thank him for all his work in the past and in the future, and state that we other WG members will do all we can to help with this big project. To fill the vacant position of Secretary I will start the election process by opening a call for nominations in a separate email.
The WG also decided to reach out to the user community of VHDL-AMS, which spans many application areas, by working with the IEEE to launch a Call for Participation. Traditionally we have had contacts with the Computer and the Circuits and Systems societies of the IEEE, and most of our members are also members of one of these societies. We will send the CfP to three societies that we have not been engaged with but where the interests of many of the end users of the language are: Power Electronics, Aerospace and Electronic Systems, and Vehicular Technology. Our goal is to widen user participation in the WG, which will bring new perspectives to the WG.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the Working Group, including but not limited to these recent developments.
